Can't speak authoritatively on  Glenn Miller's personality.  I spoke with
clarinetist Peanuts Hucko about the situation when the Air Corps Band under
Miller's direction was in London during the blitz.  There was no need for
them to be housed in London directly.  Miller secured quarters for them in
the countryside.  He spoke to the American forces about the need for trucks
to transport them to new quarters outside London proper.  Americans said
that, because it was the week-end, they'd do it early the next week.

Miller got the Brits to move them out during the weekend.

Hucko said that there was a direct hit on the dormitory building on Sunday
night where they would have been sleeping.  Hucko was complimentary toward
Miller for care and concern of his men.
