After the passage of time actual dates can easily be confused. From 1949 to  
1951 I played with a jazz band in the south of England. Fifty years later I 
was  interviewed by someone doing a history of jazz in that area. I mentioned 
that  when I left I was replaced by Bill Cole who later played with Ken Colyer. 
"Good"  the interviewer said, "I've just interviewed Bill and your stories 
tally."  Unfortunately it later transpired that we were both out by nearly five 
years and  there had been two other bass players after me!
I too have the utmost respect for the late Mr Levin and would not therefore  
discount his claims.
