I hadn't seen this posted previously. From Offbeat e-magazine.

Snug Harbor owner and jazz supporter George Brumat dies:

We were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of George Brumat, who
opened Port of Call and owned Snug Harbor, New Orleans' Marigny jazz club.
Evidently he suffered a heart attack at home in his sleep on Saturday night.

Brumat , 63, had operated Snug Harbor since the early 1980s, and made it one
of the few successful venues for modern jazz in New Orleans. Brumat was a
staunch supporter of local jazz, and Snug has since provided a stage for
established local and international jazz artists, as well as a starting
point for young local talent. Wesley Schmidt, Snug Harbor's long-time
manager has told OffBeat that the club's tradition of hosting great local
jazz will continue unchanged, as "that is what George would have wanted."

A memorial will be held, but funeral arrangements are incomplete at this
time, so watch "Breaking News" at OffBeat.com for details.
