Greetings folks,
Paul Barnes has done great justice to Good Time George with a moving
celebration of his work and including Bessie Smith's 'Gimme A Pigfoot'
which got George hooked on Jazz.
Paul quoted the NY Times obit in the show.
Mike Pointon, who worked with George on a number of documentaries for
the BBC, including 'Melly on Jelly' and a series about Bessie,
contributed some personal recollections about George visiting the room
where Bessie died.
Well worth hearing - available for seven days on the listen again facility.

Also includes music by Louis Jordan, Louis Bellson, Benny Goodman etc.
If you do tune in, please e-mail Paul.barnes at bbc.co.uk
AND
norfolk at bbc.co.uk
to let them know have enjoyed the show.
Our music is under constant threat these days and Paul's show is the
ONLY programme on BBC Radio to offer three hours of quality music every
week.
Keep swinging
John Petters
