TUESDAY, January 30, SINGERS’ OPEN MIC with Ellen Hoffman... If you 
have thought about it, what are you waiting for? As Poet, Mary Oliver 
says, “Tell me, what is your plan to do with your one wild and precious 
life?”

Wednesday, January 31, FIVEPLAY QUINTET Five terrific local musicians 
playing some wonderful straight ahead jazz... Check it out!

Thursday, February 1, RANDY MOORE & HIS TRIO Randy is a well known jazz 
educator and drummer in the Bay Area, and he has played with the best 
of the best. Tonight he comes in as a vocalist with his own trio. He 
sings the little known treasures of the songbooks. This will be a 
special evening!

Friday, February 2, VICKI BURNS & HER TRIO - LIVE RECORDING TONIGHT! 
"Avoiding the predictability of safe havens, her music brims with many 
more surprises and uncharted delights in the jazz tradition. Vicki 
Burns is irresistible."  Dr Herb Wong, 2003   Vicki will be recording 
with some great musicians! John Nichols is well known for his work on 
the electric bass, but he is also a wonderful jazz guitarist in the 
tradition of Wes Montgomery. Sam Bevan on the bass lays down 
magnificent grooves and heart breaking solos with equal ease. Smith 
Dobson V is at home on the vibes and the drums! The Great American 
Songbook with some exciting new jazz arrangements. Special guests: Nika 
Rejto, flute and Mary Ellen Donald, percussion.

Saturday, February 3, MEDICINE BALL BAND WITH PEE WEE ELLIS! Pee Wee 
Ellis, the architect of the funk for James Brown, was band leader, 
arranger, saxophonist and author of the music for 26 songs with the 
good godfather’s lyrics including Cold Sweat, the first ever ‘funk’ 
song and “Say it Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud”.  Pee Wee, also was the 
band leader/arranger for many years with Van Morrison,  and will appear 
with his old friends of the Medicine Ball Band, a Bay Area favorite now 
it’s it’s 36th year.  Join us for an evening of New Orleans R&B, swing, 
and Pee Wee’s originals. BIG FUN!

Sunday, February 4, BERKELEY HIGH JAZZ COMBOS Combos from the acclaimed 
and award willing Berkeley High Jazz Program. Come see the new young 
lions of jazz!
