Ed Coltrin asked me:
>Jim, how large is your (wine) barrel, and went on to talk about Scotch!
This was in response to my statement about purchasing wine by the barrel
which I managed (in my original post) to somehow relate to jazz! Jazz =
boozing = Jazz, I don't know! :>
Anyway, it would be impolite not to answer:
300 3/4 liter bottles = a 225 liter barrel. Cost? 6 Euros a bottle = 1,800
Euros for a barrel. Excellent price for an excellent wine that is 6 yrs old
& not available in the shops.
Red...Rioja. By the way, it comes to me in bottles...or, rather, I collect
it at the winery (Northern Spain...3.5 hrs drive). Makes for a great
weekend getaway.

Then, Tom Wiggins piped in:
>Hey Ed, YA GOT A BATHTUB DON'T YA MATE? BREW YE OWN, :))
Whoops! You're sounding very American there, Tom! :>
I once slept in a bed (while visiting friends) that bubbled & gurgled all
nite. Found out the next am that their wine was being made under the bed!
Not quite the same thing, honest! I mentioned the various types of oak
barrels the wine is lovingly transferred from & to during it's 18 to 24
months in the barrel (being moved from barrel to barrel approx every 3 to 4
months), the controlled temperatures for storing, etc. It all comes down to
drinking something palatable instead of just drinking something.
Leave it up to the experts....just as we hope the punters will do when they
choose their music.
