Dear friends,
Another sad farewell!
John Speight died suddenly at Manly Hospital on Monday 22 January 2007
following a short illness.
Jazz pianist, jazz educator, founder and long-time director of the
30-year-old International Manly Jazz Festival, organiser of the Thredbo and
other jazz festivals, musical director of 1970s Young Northside Big Band,
former member of Geoff Gilbert's Harbour City Jazz Band, father of
internationally-known alto saxophonist Andrew Speight, mentor to many and a
dear friend to all of us who knew him.
The list of his work for jazz is a long one and he will certainly be missed
by the Australian jazz family.
