the SECOND Sunday of each month. The program, which starts at 1:00 PM
and lasts until 5:00 PM, has 3 sets by the featured band alternating
with 3 jam sets. Jam Set musicians are welcome!

Since 1959 Ted Shafer has led both two-cornet jazz bands and smaller New
Orleans style combos under the "Jelly Roll Jazz Band" name.

Few contemporary traditional bands can match the breadth and scope of
the JRJB repertoire: obscurities associated with Gertrude "Ma" Rainey,
Tiny Parham, Johnny Dodds, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and the
Dixieland Jug Blowers; compositions by Lu Watters and Turk Murphy, and
originals by young revivalists such as Sonnanstine, Giomi, Robin
Wetterau and Sanford Newbauer.

Among its credits, the Jelly Roll Jazz Band has hosted the strictly trad
Suisun City Jazz Festival, and has performed at the Sacramento, Santa
Rosa Jazz, Concord, Great Falls and Puget Sound Festivals, and at the
New Orleans Jazz Club of Northern California, Oregon City, Santa Rosa,
and Napa Valley Dixieland Jazz Societies. A smaller New Orleans version
of the Jelly Roll Jazz Band had a long running gig at Le Beau's
Restaurant in Martinez, and, starting in January 2007, can be heard
every Saturday night from 7-10 PM at the Asian Paradise Cafe (414 Ferry
Street) in Martinez.

The full two-cornet version of Jelly Roll JB (normally 8-9 pieces) will
be playing for us in Napa on the 14th.

Come early, as this band always draws a large audience!

Spacious Dance Floor. The lodge has Food and a Full Bar.

One month later, NVDJS will feature the San Francisco Feetwarmers on
Sunday, February 11th, 2007 from 1-5 PM at the same location.
