That's a great idea Judie. Perhaps the best way to accomplish it is to get
the major OKOM jazz Festivals around the world to agree on a 100th
Anniversary of the birth of Jazz. Say 2008, or 2010 with jazz having been
born around then? Then have them all use the 100th Anniversary Theme with
bands that re-create such as Dan Levinson's Roof Garden Jass Band as well as
bands that play, New Orleans Jazz and those that play "modern" Dixieland,
with everything else in between. It could all be tied into "100 YEARS OF
TRADITIONAL JAZZ" or something like that etc. One or two bands in each
different style would add up to a pretty fair amount of music.

Sacramento Jubilee would be perfect as the keystone Festival to take the
lead role. Perhaps the American and Mississippi Rags could start talking it
up? Could almost be a travelling showcase with the top OKOM bands in the
world participating.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

This article is not for everyone, but there are several parallels to OKOM
such as the need to renew the audience and the music to keep the art form
viable for more than a few cognoscenti, or relegating it to museums.

Steve, why not start a campaign to celebrate a Anniversary for OKOM. We
could do that right here and get it going for the world you know. It only
takes a few of us to work it, start writing some articles, set a date and
time, place, etc. to have a celebration. Maybe 2008?
