I wish we had a Dixieland, Jazz or Blues band here. 
Unfortunately, I live on the Redneck Riviera, so I just adjusted, 
expanded 
and learned to play in "those keys" - even if it is a sin.

  There is a "side-benefit" in learning to play in "guitar keys" like D,A, G, etc.
Many other kinds of music are written in these keys, and you may be called upon
to play them. e.g. Bossa Nova is frequently in D, many ballads are in G. Some singers
may want to sing in A etc etc.
