Jonathan Russell went to his first Jazz Party in Wilmington. N.C. He had his
first stint as a band leader- first band was with Ed Polcer, Mark Shane, Joe
Ascione and Herman Burney (a wonderful bass player from Washington). Second
was with Ed, Johnny Varro, Tom Fischer (clarinet) and Chuck Reid (drums).
All great players and all very supportive of Jonathan. Final set was the
perhaps the most exciting one- Mark, Joe, Herman and Bucky Pizzarelli. The
81 year old and the 11 year old. Priceless.
The next morning at breakfast, Bucky asked Jonathan to get his violin so he
could work on Nuages with him. . . Guess Bucky Pizzarelli enjoyed playing
and being with him eh?
Now if that ain't Big Time, what is? "J" is wowing the old folks these days,
not only Pizzarelli at 81, but also Les Paul at 91.
Now for the sex part of Jonathan's gigs. He did a middle school gig with
Ed Polcer et al, and has received a ton of mail on his my space page from
the kids mostly girls... sigh.
Now if that ain't Big Time, what is? "J" is wowing the old folks these days,
not only Pizzarelli at 81, but also Les Paul at 91. Makes me at 73 feel
young
Hey "J" . . . Save the weekend of Sept 8 and 9 for the less famous Barbone
Street if you can. The Equestrian Folks would love to have you back at that
International Carriage Driving Competition. Maybe that local 10 year old
girl fan will come back there again to renew acquaintances?
Cheers,
Steve Barbone
