Another great option for people who cannot find a nearby teacher is to do  
live, real time web cam lessons with Dave Frey.  Dave currently has  students on 
plectrum, tenor, ukulele, and guitar.  Excellent at explaining  and teaching 
from beginning through intermediate.  Bought my web cam for  less than $100 
and the software for the videoconferencing is free, can use  either Skype or MSN
