Yes I did google Lorenzo Tio last night and spent about three hours going
from one site to another. There is a fantastic lot of information out there.
One site that I was most interested in, I think offered about 100 pages on
the Tio family, but says I have to go to the Public Library closest to me to
read their article, as they don't let you get into it otherwise. But they
offer many articles on many musicians besides the Tio's. I was sent to other
web sites - Jelly Roll Morton - Albert Nicholas - and oddly enough Band In a
Box! (Louis Armstrong transcriptions). No, I won't buy Band in a Box because
I could never figure it out in a million years! But, one interesting note
was that Lorenzo Tio, Jr. wrote a song which was evidently pirated and
eventually became Duke Ellington's "Mood Indigo." Shame on you, Duke. The Alan
Lomax site is also great and offers free sheet music. There is a site that
offers an on-line book about Jelly Roll. I could go on and on about this, but
if you google Lorenzo Tio, you will find it all for yourselves! I was going
to write one article. Now I'm thinking I could do a few more articles on
other clarinet players for the newsletter. What was interesting to me to begin
with is that elder Tio taught so many clarinet players! And also interesting
is that many seemed to know each other well, growing up in the same WARD in
New Orleans and hanging out together. I have come across the Tio name so
many times. Onward and upward! Thanks for your interest!

Carol, Clarinet
