Well said Jim!

Chances are if you are not in that situation it simply did not SWING :))

My Funerals usually  Swing !   Unless the client wishes it not to :))   
But even our dirges Swing !

It is a matter of playing with genuine intensity that causes the music 
to swing or not, not necessarily the tempo.   It is a matter of 
reaching the audience and really communicating musically with them that 
makes it swing and both feed of each other for those magical musical 
moments.

    This is the way I see it.  Play with energy, every bit you got, 
during the
whole set, and the audience will be on their feet at the end. Old 
people,
young people, doesn't matter.  They can feel the energy.  (Oops!  Along 
with
the energy, you gotta have pretty good music, also, or the energy thing
won't work.)

My rule, if I don't have to change my shirt at the end of a set, I 
didn't
give it all I got.
