The term "suspended" comes from a suspended resolution.  The suspension
might resolve in the next chord -- or never.  There is a whole system of
classifying suspensions in classical theory, but most of them aren't
used in popular music. (and yes, that includes jazz!)

A suspended chord can be considered a major or dominant eleventh.  The
important thing to know is that these chords, whatever else they may
have, should not have a major third.  So when you see Csus, don't play
an E.
