Dear Ed,
The correct title, according to 'Blues,An Anthology' edited by the man
himself is 'Got No Mo Home Dan A Dog'
It has been played in a number of styles. The first stain was written the
way it was sung, around 1890 by a Negro quartet in Florence.
Interesting but does not entirely answer your question.
