[Dixielandjazz] Miami

I know this has nothing to do with jazz, but if any of you "Southerners" on
DJML know Miami at all, can you give me a helping hand by answering in a
private post?  
 
I'll be staying one night in Miami in the March and we want to be in a hotel
that is near the "center".  I don't know if the center, as such, means Miami
Beach, or a particular beach, or the center of town??  We're looking for a
hotel that we can walk out the door & be near shops, restaurants, people,
etc....in the mid priced range.  Not asking for a hotel recommendation as
much as an "area" recommendation.  Any of our type of jazz down there?
