Scriabin was, to say the least, a mystic who combined many of the ideas of  
Theosophy with those of Christianity as well as of ancient mythology and 
imposed  upon all of this a layer of personal eroticism. He considered music to be 
his  path to “divine illumination”, the true performance of which required  
contributions from the performer far beyond the range which normal musical  
notation allowed.
