[Dixielandjazz] A note to DJML members about why postings get delayed

DJML list-mates,
There are many reasons why your postings may get
delayed. I am intrigued by the most common one:
people who are not DJML subscribers attempting to
post. Over the long weekend, maybe a half dozen
postings about Anita O'Day came from individuals whose
email addresses are not on the subscriber list. I'm
assuming you get the list forwarded to you by a
member, or you're using email forwarding from your
list address.
The software that supports DJML is relatively dumb -
if you have subscribed as
"fred_flintstone at the_flintstones.com", and you attempt
to send an email from
"fred_g_flintstone at the_flintstones.com" or
"fred_flintstone at the_flintstones.com.uk", your message
will be placed into the moderator holding tank until a
judge can revew your case....er...I mean until a
moderator can review the message.
Allowing only subscribers to post prevents junk mail -
we get several hundred spam/junk emails per week in
that e-drunk tank. Sometimes, if there are 50 or so
held messages, in his haste to get through the sorting
process, the moderator or henchman may inadvertendly
delete a useful message.
Best of the season to all,
Dave Haupt
Part time assistant sub-lieutenant fledgling DJML
moderator and perpetually part time wannabe piano pounder
