Dublin High School Band to hold showcase concert

Event hoped to encourage band participation at college level

Most high school bands don't even think about concert season during the
hectic days of the fall. Bands are too busy with marching rehearsals, pep
rallies, bus trips, and football games to even think about concerts or
concert music. Concert performance requires a completely different concept
of sound and balance from the performers, the music is generally much more
difficult, and there is just not enough time to do anything but survive,
preparing for a pregame performance, half-time performance, and a stands
performance EVERY WEEK!

The Dublin High School band is indeed trying something radical with its
approach to musical performance this Fall. Band Director Louis Foster has
scheduled a band "showcase" concert for Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at
Theater Dublin, and has invited area college and university band directors
to conduct the band, listen to the students, and make contacts with students
and parents about possible participation in the college or university band
programs in the next year or two. . . snipped to

Some of the full band numbers to be performed are "Quality Plus March," by
Fred Jewell, "Havendance" by David Holsinger, "Rondo for Solo and Wind
Band," by W. A. Mozart (featuring bassoon soloist Erin Wu), "On a Hymsong of
Phillip Bliss," by David Holsinger, "DIXIELAND ON STAGE," (emphasis mine)
featuring a Dixieland combo and several others. All music fans and
supporters of Dublin High School are cordially invited to attend and enjoy
the special event, Thursday at Theater Dublin.
