Good Lord amighty Dave that looks like a Pocket tuba for a rather large
gentleman with very large pockets :))

however : Ophicleides, sounds like some sort of Greek Birth Control
device that we have not heard of yet :))

Sorry John Pappas ! could Jim O 'Briant or somebody explain it and
its possible usage if any :))

Just a dumb kid from the Ghetto who has never seen or heard on e that i
know of anyway. :))

However I would add that what I heard esteemed colleague Pete Main Play
last weekend, leads me to believe that I could easily come from behind
drums and become a REAL musician with one or two lessons on the
Sarusaphone How a fine reed man with such a reputation could emit such
sounds from any instrument simply astounds me :)) Goodness and he is a
Professional too, give great hopes to us wannabes huh ?? Now if I
could only afford to buy one I could kick Kenny G's butt . I can see
it now the Sarusaphone is the new king of Smooth Jazz, :))

Cheers,

Tom

The website I mentioned the other day (at least I thought I did )
http://www.contrabass.com/pages/compendium.html also has all sorts of
information on Ophicleides, Sarrusophones, Saxhorns and other oddities.
One of the most recent inventions is the Tubax - the BBb Tubax plays an
octave lover than the Bass Sax and is in current production! It looks a
bit like a Sarrusophone as well.

However, I just saw a picture of the next tuba I really want:

 A "Back Pack" tuba!
