Ivor Jones and others note that trad jazz seems to be heard more often
nowadays as background, on commercials, etc. Certainly true here in the
Northeast USA, as per my many posts on the subject. Perhaps it has always
been around these parts or maybe gaining since Burns Jazz? Here is a note
about a long running series that few of us have heard about, but sounds like
a winner.

The New Hampshire Library of Traditional Jazz has produced a new jazz CD
entitled Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans? This recording
focuses on music related to New Orleans, its music and songwriters, and all
proceeds directly support hurricane relief through two charities: Music
Cares, Hurricane Relief 2005 and American Library Association, Katrina
Relief Fund.
The music on this CD comprises nearly 70 minutes of previously unissued,
live recordings from the University's Traditional Jazz Series concerts, now
in their 27th year. The stellar cast of musicians include: Doc Cheatham, Vic
Dickenson, Dave McKenna, Dick Hyman, Jimmy Mazzy, Eli Newberger, Butch
Thompson, Bob Wilber, Bud Freeman, Peanuts Hucko, Jim Fryer, Spiegle
Willcox, and Jeff Barnhart. Groups include: Ray Smith's Paramount Jazz Band
of Boston, The New Black Eagles Jazz Band, The Wolverine Jazz Band, Vince
Giordano's New Orleans Nighthawks, the Galvanized Jazz Band, and The White
Heat Swing Orchestra.
