We have not yet held the first audition, we are still in the early
stages of our search. The job is indeed at the present time "up for
grabs." The fellows who posted about it on the trombone list had it
mostly right except for one thing: we are no longer offering health
insurance.

If any of you know of a trombone player who you think might be qualified
and is interested in re-locating to San Antonio, Texas, NOW is the time
to get in touch with me at

We will want to hear you on CD, or mp3, so have them email me with a
link to where they can be streamed, or email me for a street address to
send a CD to.

Grah: what about a young, upcoming trombonist from Down Under? We are
partial to Australians, well familiar with the scene there. Love to work
with Bob Barnard, Nina Ferro, Simon Stribling, Tom Baker (may he RIP).
We are also familiar with Andrew Speight who teaches with us at Stanford
every summer. Jim has experience making arrangements for non-US players,
we went through that when Canadian Brian Ogilvie (RIP) joined us back in
1992.

One thing: Jim is interested in a long-term commitment, and that is
usually the way it works. Typical tenure in the band is 10+ years. I
started in 1991, Howard Elkins started in 1979. The reason people stay
is that it's a damn good gig. You get to play real jazz 6 nights a week.

Grah: would you mind passing the above along to the trombone list guys?
Much obliged.

It's amazing how fast the net makes things like this go. Kenny just gave
his notice two weeks ago.
