[Dixielandjazz] Jelly Roll Morton

Dear Ivor,
Although I have a copy I haven't read it all. He is an Assistant Professor
of English at Pasadena City College. It seems to be a reasonably scholarly
246-page illustrated volume with 16 pages of "Notes", and a 5-page
bibliography and 6-page index. As a physician I differ with him in his
suggestion that Jelly Roll Morton may have had syphilis, in an article I
wrote expanding what was in my book "Jazz and Death. Medical Profiles of
Jazz Greats" (Unversity Press of Mississippi, 2002). This of course is a
purely professionald comment and does not necessarily detract from the
book's overall accuracy. Book reviews though are notoriously personal and
unreliable, so I would suggest you have your local library obtain a copy on
the Inter Library Loan network if they don't have one, and decide for
yourself. Cheers.
Fred

Hi Everybody,

In my library I have a number of books on Morton but not 'Dead Man Blues' by
Phil Pastras. Is it worth buying ?

Regards to all

Ivor
