Seems a question has arisen as to actually conducted the Eastman Wind
Ensemble for the Civil War series in l961-

The 24 page liner notes show Dr Frederick conducting, and the description of
the physical placement of the musicians is signed by Dr Frederick. The notes
state that ""at the Eastman School of Music he entered into an association
with Mercury Records which finally gave him the chance to realize his old
ambition of recording the music and sounds of the Civil War. "

Dr. Frederick Fennell refers to "his podium" in describing the physical
arrangements, and no where in the liner notes can I find a mention of a "John
Fennell." I'm going to go with Frederick as the conductor, as stated in the
notes.
Possibly there is a later conductor from the same family named "John" who
made a subsequent recording??

A minor question for me-the brass instruments were outstanding!

                        Ted
