Mike, To put it in simple terms, your college professor is all wet.
Get the LP, I hope it has been reissued on CD, "Many Faces of Ragtime" by
Turk Murphy.
Also, "The Red Back Book" by Gunther Schuler and the New England
Conservatory Ragtime Orchestra.
Both recordings are terrific!
