Larry wrote about fireworks at 4th of July gigs, in answer to my comment
about our Embassy gig. I've played this job a number of times over the
years. They never have fireworks, probably as the Embassy grounds are smack
dab on the most important thoroughfare in town. Too bad, as the Spanish are
really good with their fireworks!

The police blocked off part of the street & used the area to park all the
limos! Terrible traffic scenes in a town of 5 million! Sharp shooters on
the surrounding roof tops. Helicopter hovering above! Nevertheless, they
never, ever do a good job with security. "Open your trombone case", I am
told. One glance, that's it. Inside the bell of my horn, I always have my
trombone stand. A long metal bar goes right up inside the horn. Anything,
whatsoever, could be in there, but no one has ever looked up inside the
horn!

Good thing us musicos are trusty folks! :>

Jim
