Many of us are retired, or not trying to play jazz professionally for a
living, or have other income etc., but here is an expanding program for Jazz
musicians who are not so fortunate.
Cheers,

Folks:
I am BCC: ing many of you in the Jazz community in order to make you
aware of a new and valuable program which is just beginning to take off in
Philadelphia. Many of you may have heard of the free health care services
provided to the New York Jazz community through the Jazz Foundation of
America and Englewood Hospital in NJ.
The gentleman who started that program has been working with Mercy Hospital
to provide the same free, high-quality, dignified health care to the
Philadelphia Jazz and Blues community.
Please read below, and try to come to the kickoff meeting on July 12th
at 6:00 P.M. if you can. This program is for ALL Jazz musicians and
vocalists who can take advantage of it, regardless of age.
I am working with bassists Gerald Veasley and guitarist Jimmy Bruno on
the kickoff committee. You may get a similar message from either of those
cats, since this is a pretty tight community. Hope to see you there !
Cheers,
Jan

Mercy Hospital has joined with the Jazz Foundation of America to provide
free medical care to Jazz and Blues Musicians. Similar to the program in
place at Englewood Hospital NJ, the program would provide free physician and
hospital care to referred musicians. Started in 1994, at Englewood, the
program has provided care to hundreds of musicians at no charge. The Jazz
Foundation is working on establishing medical programs throughout the US in
order to get care to local musicians on a local basis. Philadelphia was
selected as the second location. The program has been in development at
Mercy for six months, and has already accepted referrals.
We would like to have you attend a meeting at Mercy on July 12th , at 6pm,
to meet the staff and physicians from Mercy and representative from the Jazz
Foundation. We would like to spread the word about the program, provide
contact information and answer any questions that you might have.
The Jazz Foundation has asked us to help start and coordinate the program
in Philadelphia.
We see this as a great benefit to our community and hope that you can join
us at the meeting.
