As you know, the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society has tremendous youth
programs. We sponsor a week-long Youth Jazz Camp, award scholarships for
music lessons and sponsor the first ever TJYBF (Trad Jazz Youth Band
Festival). WE
are also working on implementing a youth mentoring program.

Below is an e-mail from Michael Sands. The e-mail is self-explanatory.

I endorse Michael's plea for sponsors for the Race for the Arts on behalf
of the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society.

Dear Friends,
As you may know, for many years I participated in the Race for the Arts on
behalf
of the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society Foundation. However, last year I
was
unable to participate as I was involved in a cardiac rehabilitation program
after
my open heart bypass surgery. Fortunately I have completely recovered and
am feeling
better than ever, so I have decided once again to get back into the Race for
the
Arts.
The purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds for the youth education
programs
of the Society. These include sponsoring a youth band, bringing jazz
musicians into
the local schools, providing music lessons, and running a jazz camp every
summer
at Sly Park. The jazz camp attracts about 100 students from all over the
United
States and Canada.
Our primary fundraiser is the 5K Race for the Arts, organized every August
to support
many of Sacramento's cultural organizations. Over the years the Foundation
has raised
many thousands of dollars by participating in the Race. The money has then
supported
the Jazz Camp.
Although the race will not be held until August, this is the time to obtain
sponsors.
I am inviting you to support me as I again participate in the Race. If you
are willing
to do so, you may use either of these methods:
    (1) Send me a check, payable to Race for the Arts, to 901 F Street,
#200, Sacramento
95814. Select any amount with which you are comfortable.
    (2) Send me a pledge by return email. Be sure to include your street
address
and telephone number, and the amount of the pledge. After I complete the
race I
will then send you a letter asking that you send me a check for the amount
pledged.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
Mike Sands
