Help, gang,

Anybody who has some really extensive knowledge of MIDI please contact me - off list
My programs are playing MIDI files nicely, but I'm not receiving the midi notes from the keyboard
I'm using both Finale and Pro Audio 9 and neither program is notating what is played.
I'm trying to narrow down if it's the programs fault or the cords (its a midi to usb cord)...
