Friends,
I have been lurking here for a little while, checking out the list exchanges
and the general feel of things. Having done that, then, I'd like to mention
something very cool which our band has done recently.
Detroit JazzStage has released two FREE Podcasts of Phil Ogilvies Rhythm
Kings, a.k.a. P.O.R.K., a great Hot Jazz and Dance Orchestra based in Ann
Arbor, Michigan. Our pianist and music director is the Grammy-nominated
bandleader and jazz historian James Dapogny, and the rest of the band is the
cream of Michigan's early jazz talent.
Click on our website below and then follow the link on the main page to go
to the Detroit JazzStage site and listen to much of an entire evening of
music from the band interspersed with interviews featuring Jim Dapogny and
myself (nearly an hour and 45 minutes total).
The shows are accessible at any time, so enjoy!
When you get to the Detroit Jazz Stage website, you'll see that the second
part of the show is listed first. In that paragraph, click on the section
"If you haven't heard Part 1, please click >here< to download it. " That
will take you to the first part of the show, with the formal portrait of the
band.
Then click on the little right-pointing PLAY button on the control panel to
begin the Podcasts. Then be patient, it takes a moment or two to load.
Alternatively, you may download the entire shows to your computer from the
link at the bottom of each show's text.
Please also tell all of your early jazz-loving friends about the show, and
feel free to copy and forward this message.
I have learned that we have been getting phenomenal downloads. Our show is
hovering around the top 25-26 music downloads, out of thousands!
The show had a record setting 11,000 downloads in the first 13 days. Detroit
JazzStage had another record setting day of 1242 downloads with the release
of the second half of the show. They have averaged over 900 downloads/day
during the month. Those are amazing numbers, especially for a band playing
our kind of music.
Here's our website, which will take you there:
