I don't know if a spyware blocker would have prevented this, but I think it
is an essential protection to have on your computer.

Yesterday I got a call from my credit card company wanting to know if I had
charged $1600 on my music business account. The answer was of course no
because the debit card associated with this account is never used which is
why they red flagged it and called. This Debit Card # isn't in my computer
and hasn't ever been used. The only logical place is through the bank or CC

company being hacked. I wonder how much other stuff they may know like SS#
etc. They knew my wife's name. (actually her card on this account).

About two weeks ago a notice popped up telling me that information was
available on me from my computer, it listed the directory of my hard drive,
took over and became my browser and put up on the screen some heavy duty
raunch that was supposed to be in my computer. Fortunately I know enough
about computers to get this thing off and re establish my browser but
imagine if my wife or grandkids turned on the machine and this thing popped
up. They were selling something that would remove this porn browser. It's
like coming in and destroying your store and then selling you "protection"
to keep it from happening. I think that a lot of people would panic and buy

their "protection". Listing the directory is very clever but didn't mean
that they had actually any real access to my computer but wanted me to think

they did.

This was all past the firewall and anti virus software. The only way this
could have gotten in is via something legitimate, sort of like a virus but
without the signature that is picked up by the anti virus and firewall
software.

Anyone have this happen to you?
