Bill and Others;

I have 2 versions of "Mack The Knife" on a Book-Of-The-Month Club LP set.
Both were recorded on September 28, 1955 with the All-Stars. Both are listed
as being unissued by Columbia. One features Lotte Lenya being taught how to
sing the song (CO53819-5), the other is an instrumental version (CO53820-7).

My turntable is down right now so I haven't been able to listen to these
cuts.

We all know the original Louis All Stars record from 28 Sept 1955
but, are the sides actually in your collection?
I'm talking about the record where Louis plays trumpet behind his vocal.
If I'm wrong about all this, by all maens tell me but, please,
identify the LP/CD you have it on.
----------------- My Response (it might be too
much) ------------------------
Rare Louis Armstrong
Live recording at the Stork Club N.Y. 1962
Polskie Nagrania SXL 1158 (12 inch Lp)
Liner notes are in Polish but they are wrong anyway.

Personell listed: Louis Armstrong (Trumpet & Vocals), Joe Darensbourg
(Clarinet), Trummy Young (Trombone), Billy Kyle (Piano), Billy Cronk (Bass),
Danny Barcelona (Drums)

But that can't be right. Phil Schapp and I agree that it's probably Tyree
Glenn, Marty Napoleon etc. Phil calls this the Mystery Record. Stork Club
wasn't open and "Hello Dolly" was written later than 1962. It is a live
recording.

WHEN IT'S SLEEPY TIME DOWN SOUTH (L. Rene, O. Rene - C. Muse)
BACK HOME AGAIN INDIANA (S. G. Honley, McDonald)
HELLO DOLLY (J. Herman)
ST. JAMES INFIRMARY (J. Primrose)
ON BLUEBERRY HILL (Lewis, L. Stock, V. Rose)
MACK THE KNIFE (From The 3 penny opera) (K. Weill, B. Brecht)
CABARET (J. Kander)
THAT'S MY DESIRE (Kress, Loveday)
OLE MISS (traditional)
A KISS TO BUILD A DREAM ON (Kalmar, Ruby, Hammerstein ll)

I Just looked at and listened to Louis Armstrong Melodia C60 05909 10.
Mack The Knife is the first cut. Sounds like The All Stars to me.
Behind vocals is Trombone (1st 8), Clar. (2nd 8), Cornet or trpt. (Louis ?)
(3rd 8),
etc. Last chorus Satch says "Take it Louis" and plays the tune out.
