[Dixielandjazz] In Defence of Rowan University

Anybody who is a music fan and lives within 100 miles of Rowan University
knows where it is. In Philadelphia, all the folks who might like to hear
that New Orleans Music know about Rowan (Formerly Glassboro College) They
have a very strong Music Department.

But what you may not know is that the band there, on Feb 8 mentioned in the
release is the "Showboat Casino Band" minus me.

Bob Rawlins, PhD (Music), the reed man mentioned in the band performing at
Rowan, is also the Chairman of the Music Department there and first call sub
at the Showboat when I can't make the gig.

The gig is part of a "black History" month of musical performances at Rowan
and the evening is dedicated to New Orleans Jazz.

For those who know where Rowan is, that performance will swing its ass off.
The real message, perhaps, is that OKOM thrives here in the Philadelphia
area because of University's like Rowan, or Pennsylvania, or West Chester,
or Delaware, etc., etc.., etc. actively present OKOM all year long.

Could it be that we have all the "excellent" music teachers here? Nah, just
a lot of working jazz musicians.
