Subject: [Dixielandjazz] Four leaf clover
Hello all
The Ingle story about singer Billy Murray is a nice one. It's true that
Murray's attempt to be "hot, hot, hot" was a failure - the issued take is 4
and Murray was still singing "a pretty little four leaf clover". Still, he
does manage the rushed timing.
On a minor point, would Venuti have been "perched on a stool close to a
horn pickup for his violin" ? - the recording was electrical. Sorry to
nit-pick :-)
Bix's part in the Goldkette recording is not prominent but he does give us
one of the great breaks in jazz recording - a superb "whinny". This,
together with Steve Brown's slapped bass, makes it a must.
All the best
Anton
