Hi Stephen (and all) -
Regarding that "small guitar" --
It looks and sounds like a baritone ukulele (which is tuned like the top
four strings of the guitar).
It was Arthur Godfrey's (remember him?) favorite instrument.
I have one which I absolutely love - they're great in quiet settings to
accompany songs and guitarists will find them very easy to adapt. As a solo
instrument they function just as any guitar would and, basically, if you can
coax a tune from a guitar you should have no problem with the baritone Uke.
