24/12/06 - Hi Fred, As many of the people who visit your site will know,
TheJazz, a new DAB digital radio station dedicated to playing jazz night and
day, launches nationally on DAB digital radio at 9am on Christmas Day. This
is an exciting development, particularly if you're into different styles of
jazz, but the danger is that anything pre-bop will be marginalised, simply
because those running the station don't think there's much of an audience
for it. It's up to us to make a pitch for the likes of Oliver, Morton,
Beiderbecke and Bechet, otherwise it will go by default. One way to do this,
even if you haven't yet got digital radio, is to go to the web site and vote
for your three all-time favourite jazz tracks. You're invited to do this on
the home page at www.thejazz.com A large vote for classic jazz and
mainstream tracks might ensure a broader coverage than has seemed likely in
the advanced publicity. Regards, Keith Allcock
