Where did the word "gig" , meaning a musician's job or a temporary job come
from?

Answer: Most of the places checked said gig's origins are unknown, but it's
been around since the early 1900's.
It might have once been a slang word for a dance or party. Or it might have
come from gigi or giggy which are very old Anglo Saxon slang terms for a
part of the female anatomy.

Any comments?????
