[Dixielandjazz] opening a can of worms

Hi Ross:

Since I have certainly not heard all the jazz bands in Europe or even
in the USA for that matter I would not venture to make such a wide
sweeping statement without really expecting to stir the old
Traditionalist pot to boiling. :))

I probably would agree with Cees anyway since I have Never played any
American Traditional or Dixieland Jazz festivals, and book 90% of my
shows in Europe, so I guess that makes us a European Band :)) ha ha.

Your band is also a fine example of non stateside bands, but then it
does not count since you guys are the kids of former European criminals
or what not and have nt official classification in this pissing contest
either as USA Band or European band. :))

I was just having a bit of a go at Cees who also has a good band so I
hear, hope to meet up with both of your bands one of these days and if
there is enough BEER FLOWING WHO CARES WHO'S BAND IS BEST SO LONG AS WE
ALL GET TO PLAY AND HAVE A GOOD TIME.

Cheers,

Tom Wiggins

Oh my God Cees I can't believe you said THAT :))

Please send me 100 kilos of what you are smoking :))

That's like saying Dutch food is Haute Cuisine while touring in
France or Italy :))

It also depends upon what one considers Jazz and I have heard a lot of
stuff touted and passed off as Jazz in Europe that is simply
un-listenable and Have been sent Cds of it and asked to book it.
Fortunately it was not OKOM and I found it hard to believe that it was
AKOM

Anbody's Kind of Music,, Hell even that it was music.
Cheers,

Tom Bring 'em on!! Wiggins

Europe embraced the jazz legacy in the forties, started to copy and
then
started developing jazz on its own. Reading DJML I found out there's
a lot of unjustified patriotism in the U.S.A. I think the level of
jazz in
Europe is much higher than in the U.S.A. Most bands in Europe
are just superiour to U.S.A.-bands. I know we all have to pay our
debts to the originators, but it is time to see the truth, so that
we can communicate on the right level.

 Ducking,

 Cees van den Heuvel
