Hi Pat and all:
Again it is a matter of personal interpretation of what song is or is
not considered to be Traditional Jazz.
We do not all think the same and many as stated in this thread earlier
consider songs like "Moon River " to be Classical music, the genre is
indeed in the mid and ears of the listener, whether we choose to
consider it as what we call Traditional Jazz or not.
I used to have people make statements about Legendary Blues Man John
Lee Hooker's daughter's music calling her Jazz instead of Blues, and
John simply said "If she say it be Blues then it is Blues She wrote the
song, and Blues comes in many flavors and even inspired lots of Jazz."
If Louis Armstong the undisputed king of Jazz played it then it's close
enough to Jazz for me and there are many many folks around the world
who think it is as well. Dixieland Jazz no but Jazz nonetheless a
Jazz Ballad probably defines it better however. I put it in the same
category as Star Dust. and other songs of that ilk.
Cheers,
Tom

I playing just that one song to
fifty or sixty thousand younger audience members a concert is not
doing
anything to spread Traditional Jazz then Louis Armstrong is a myth>>
Wow, playing WWW, I dont care by who, will not spread Traditional Jazz
one iota. Its a `sort of alright` little tune but it has as much
relationship to Jazz, of any sort, as my little finger has to
Cleopatra`s Needle.
Cheers
Pat
