Hi Bob:

Not to disagree or belittle Judy's situation at all, but since you came
forth with your contribution, perhaps you can explain the following
scenario to me, and what you would do as a professional volunteer
Sherriff's patrol officer on duty.

at our local High school we have a parking lot used exclusively for and
right next to the Tennis Courts, with four Handicapped stalls, now
keep in mind here that there are no spectators and no area for an
audience of any kind at these courts, so why do we need to have four
Handicapped parking stall set aside. Incidentally I have never once in
four years seen one Handicapped vehicle parked in one of them either
and I walk my dog thru this parking lot daily at least once. In my
semi professional opinion anyone who can play Tennis is not handicapped
sufficiently to need a parking spot to play Tennis. And no they do
not have a wheelchair tennis tournament or even private lesson or
special programs here, just four stalls that never have a car parked in
them legally, which means almost never since we are all law abiding
citizens in this community.

Now if some handicapped person drove around the rest of the campus
trying to find a legal parking space for themselves and stumbled upon
these four they would have about a two block wheelchair trip to get to
the theater, or even the football or track or gymnasium, area, and
would have to wheel across ten or fifteen acres of grass to get to the
baseball field bleachers.

Brilliant planning because of a law that of course is useful in most
scenarios but totally wasted on this one.

Still no excuse for Judy's and any other legitimately handicapped
persons situation so please don't get me wrong I am on her side, I
also know a sheriff's department officer who has such a plaque on his
dashboard and he is on total disability because he won a case against
the local department on the grounds that it hurts his hip to carry a
pistol on it, and is drawing total disability payments at age 45. I
hope someday he gets run over by a handicapped person who can't reach
the break pedal and makes an honest handicapped person out of his sorry
butt. :))

Right is right and wrong is still wrong where I come from. And yes too
many folks to day simply have NO MANNERS AND OR RESPECT FOR HANDICAPPED
PERSONS. These are often the same folks who run thru red lights and
honk at Blind people crossing the street with a white cane and often
shout obscenities at them to make them get out of the way because the
light changed.

Jeers,

Tom Wiggins

I am a member of the Senior Volunteer Sheriff's Patrol of San Diego
(CA)
County. One of our duties is to write handicap parking violation
tickets. The
fine
rather discourages misuse of these
spaces...........................................$441.00
