Jazz Salute to New Orleans

Wynton Marsalis took the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra to New Orleans to
salute his hometown yesterday with the first public performance of "Congo
Square," written and performed with the Ghanaian drummer Yacub Addy. The
performance, joined by other groups, in Congo Square, where slaves were free
to play music in the 18th and 19th centuries, was part of the effort to
bring life back to the city after Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Marsalis and the
orchestra are to perform the 80-minute "Congo Square" at the Rose Theater in
New York from May 4 to 6.
