Thank you Rebecca for posting the extremely well-written article.   
 From what I can gather, it seems to suggest that we should only buy and 
record on expensive disks but then, if we want to save the recordings, 
put them in vacuum-packed bags and store them in climate-controlled 
rooms if we want to somewhat guarantee their playability after 5 years. 
  It also seems to suggest that we "save our original LPs because we'll 
be needing to record them again to replace CDs that have gone bad."
