[Dixielandjazz] Murder Mystery solved

Hi Listmates,

Speaking of that book about murder at the Sacramento Jubilee . . . Joyce 
Krieg, who wrote the book, did a fair amount of research on it, but then she 
was already quite familiar with the Jubilee because she has had a long 
association with it.

One year, I don't recall . . . about 10 or twelve years ago  . . . Festival 
director, Roger Krum was presenting a plaque to Joyce to honor some service 
she did for the festival. The ceremony took place during the Jubilee at the 
Crest Theatre (one of the festival venues) in downtown Sacramento. It was 
dark in the audience and the spotlights were on Roger and Joyce who were on 
the stage. It was impossible for Joyce to see the edge of the stage and she 
took a step forward and took a four foot fall and did a face plant in the 
orchestra pit!

Everyone gasped, but, trooper that Joyce was, she picked herself off and 
scampered back on stage and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.  But I'll 
bet Joyce was pretty sore for a couple of days after that!

By the way, my wife, Beverly, is the parking coordinator for all the 
vehicles going in and out of all the venues (band vans, service trucks, 
etc.) and she is affectionately known among the Jubilee volunteers as "The 
Parking Bitch." She has held this job for over twenty five years now but we 
all still call her by her "unofficial" title. It has become a term of 
endearment among all of us.

Anyway, Bev's persona was used as a minor character in the book and, when 
(or "if") you read it you'll see an appearance or two by "The Parking Bitch" 
as the protagonists try to find a place to park in Old Sacramento.

On a final note, Bev has loaned the book to someone and has since forgotten 
just who it was. If whoever has it is reading this, will you please return 
it to my lovely wife, the Parking Bitch!
