 Instead I have just ordered a stand-alone turntable with a built-in preamp
- Sony PS-LX250H Automatic - which I shall connect to my PC, run the music
through either CoolEdit or Audacity, convert the files to WAV then burn the
CDs.

John, why don't you get a stand alone CD writer.  Other people on DJML have
talked about theirs.  I'm sure someone can suggest a good priced machine.
That way you won't have to go into your computer, compress audio for wav,
etc.
