I think "Anderson's" was also the name of one of the pleasure palaces on Basin St, just a block away. Could he have had the wrong street?

A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion regarding Frank Guarente and King Oliver. I recently picked up a copy of Paul Specht's 1941 book "How They Became Name Bands," and he has this to say regarding Guarente.
He mentions Guarente arriving in 1910 in Philadelphia, playing with Creatore and Don Philippini's Symphony Band. Also mentioned is FG in New Orleans in 1914 securing an engagement as soloist at Kolb's Restaurant with an 11 piece orchestra. Then "Guarente also played with Mar's Brass Band, which used to "swing" their band marches in syncopated rhythm style when on parade through the streets of New Orleans."
The next paragraph deals with Oliver: "Guarente says that King Joe Oliver's Band was the favorite Negro band of respectable New Orleans popularity, and that King Joe Played for Guarente's birthday part on October 5, 1914. In 1914, Guarente was still in New Orleans playing at Anderson's Place on Rampart Street." There's no mention of Oliver and Guarente exchanging lessons.
