[Dixielandjazz] Creating & Re-Creating

One band out there blends both quite well. Ed Metz and The Bobcats. They use
the Crosby Charts, yet allow plenty of room for original solo space. And so
what you get is a sort of "Chicago" style band in the style of Bob Crosby,
for want of a better description.
The beauty of it is that guys in the band like reed man Paul Hubbell get a
chance to shine creatively. And shine he does. For those who haven't heard
Paul, he is one of the best out there on reeds. And Ed Metz swings with the
best of them on piano.

PS. Noted the discussion about Dick Hyman. He is a piano genius, able to
sound like anybody. (Like Arturo Sandoval can on trumpet) I wonder what they
might have been had they found their own jazz voices.
