Dear family, friends, clients and other music lovers,
A wonderful group volunteers has joined together to form the Fullerton
Theatre League
(
www.fullertontheatreleague.com
) to give a boost to the live stages and performing arts organizations in
Fullerton,
California. I am happy to be associated with these warm, friendly,
civic-minded
folks and to serve as the first president of FTL's "Board of the Whole,"
where everyone's
voice is heard and all participate mightily.
In addition to our usual work of promoting awareness of local theatrical
events and
raising funds for Fullerton's live theaters, we are working hand-in-hand
with the
Friends of Jazz (www.friendsofjazz.com) to make this year's Ragtime Music
Festival
(
www.ragfest.com
) the best in the six year history of the event. Friends of Jazz is a
non-profit
organization with its head and heart (and fingers and ears!) in the right
place,
raising money for youth education in music.
RagFest will come to life in downtown Fullerton on Oct. 15-16, featuring
pianists,
vocalists and others, performing solos, duets and more from the vintage
ragtime era
to and contemporary ragtime compositions. This year's festival features
several
venues including a restored ballroom space for dancing to live music; Tex
Wydham's
one-hour seminar "Another Trip down Tin Pan Alley"; a specialty variety show
featuring
headliners like Ian Whitcomb, Carl Sonny Leyland and Patrick Aranda; and
many great
performances including surprise guest artists.
Tickets are only $40 for the entire weekend or $15 or $20 for individual
programs,
with group and senior discounts available; children 15 and under are
admitted free
with a paid adult or guardian. The attached flier provides further detail
regarding
performers, venues and how to obtain tickets (visit
www.ragfest.com
or simply call (714) 525-6669). Revenues go to support the arts and
artists, including
scholarships for young musicians.
You are warmly invited to attend this year's RagFest! Tickets are still
available
for all events, but they are expected to go fast. Please visit the Ragfest
Website
(
www.ragfest.com
) to purchase tickets for you and your loved ones (they make great gifts
too); and
please help FTL and FOJ get the word out over the next few weeks by
forwarding this
email to a few friends and colleagues who might love the music (we ask that
they
forward it as well).
I'm looking forward to seeing you at this year's festival.
