I knew my memory hadn't failed me when I told my wife I first learned
the mysteries of pizza at Lupos which IIRC was somewhere near North
Beach, maybe on Columbus? Must have been around 1947 or so. I tried
to show it to her on a trip a few years ago, but found no sign of
it--along with Earthquake McGoons. Glad I have those memories, though.

>As to another question in a previous post. Tempo of the YBJB. I knew people were dancing at the Dawn Club, circa 1941/1942. But at 15/16 years I was more interested in absorbing the music from in front of the band stand. I remember dancing at HB Kelleys, but don't recall a lot of dancing at the "Big Bear Inn' . Asking alot for 65 years ago. There wasn't a lot of tries to emulate the 20's dancing. but most of the steps were from the shag and early 40's jitterbug and swing.

The only time I heard the YBJB live was at a Cal pep rally - I think the
band had come over from Hambone Kelleys for the occasion. By then I
had collected a fair number of their records, all long gone now.

Of course that was in the days when Cal had winning teams under Pappy
Waldorf.
