Since I haven't heard mention of this on DJML, I thought I'd pass it along
for all to get a heads up on.

Friday, October 21, 2005 New Orleans steamboat stops here on relief tour

By Jim Knippenberg Enquirer staff writer

Cincinnati gets an early bite of the Tall Stacks apple next weekend when the
Natchez, homeport New Orleans, steams into Cincinnati for three days of
public cruises.

The visit is the kickoff of the Natchez's Hurricane River Relief Tour, a
fund-raiser for steamship employees affected by Katrina (four of the six
captains lost their homes and are living on the boat) as well as for the
Clinton/Bush Katrina Fund and the New Orleans tourism industry.

The Natchez's trip is called a "tramping trip," a term from when ships would
stop in selected ports, offer a few cruises and then head to the next port.

The Natchez arrives here Oct. 28, offers cruises Oct. 29-31, then sails to
Louisville, Evansville, Paducah, Memphis, Natchez, Baton Rouge and back to
New Orleans Nov. 23, when ship personnel hope to resume normal New Orleans
operations.

All cruises - two hours for lunch, brunch or dinner - will be jazz-themed
with music from New Orleans' Dukes of Dixieland and vocalists Luther Kent
and The Pfister Sisters. Some cruises will include cooking demonstrations -
New Orleans style, of course - with chefs Daniel Bonnot and Willy Coln,
stars of the Discovery Channel's "Great Chefs of New Orleans."

The signature event of the four-day visit will be a 10 a.m. Oct. 30 Great
River Relief Steamboat Race against the Belle of Cincinnati.
